Isabella F. Uría

Isabella Uría is a research assistant to Professor Siegfried Hecker, Senior Fellow at CISAC and FSI. She graduated from Stanford University in June 2014 with a B.A. in International Relations, a minor in Modern Languages, and Interdisciplinary Honors in International Security Studies from CISAC.

Isabella brings deep knowledge of the Asia-Pacific region through her Stanford undergraduate coursework in international relations, CISAC honors thesis on the PRC-DPRK relationship, and work experience with the U.S. Foreign Service in China and the Institute of National Policy Research in Taiwan.

While a Stanford undergraduate student, Isabella engaged in an array of leadership, cultural, and philanthropic activities. She helped develop residential education programs for her dormitory, coordinated cross-cultural exchange programs between university students from the U.S. and from mainland China, Taiwan, and Japan, and contributed to the development of an unprecedented Chinese-friendly tourism program for the Flamenco Museum in Seville, Spain. She was a founding member of the Cuban-American Students Association, founded Latin@s Unidos, a student group aimed at educating the Stanford community about Latin American and Latino diversity, and directed a women and youth mentoring program serving middle school students in East Palo Alto.
