Rural Boarding Schools in China: the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

In the wake of a nationwide school merger program carried out in the early 2000s, boarding schools have sprung up across rural China. Despite large-scale government investment, the quality of boarding school facilities and management are so poor that they may be harmful to students. Safety, hygiene, supervision, diet and nutrition are all serious problems in China's rural primary boarding schools. This video tracks some of these issues and shows the contrast between low-quality schools in rural China and high-quality schools in urban areas.
