Priceless

Yangyang (left) will soon own a new pair of eyeglasses

Ji Yangyang is an 11-year-old boy at Bailong Primary School in Yulin. The optician examined his eyes and discovered that he has amblyopia or “lazy eye” in his left eye and his other eye is normal.

His grandfather lost his vision in his mid-fifties and has never had an eye exam. Why? When he thought about going to an optician, it was already too late. That is why Yangyang’s grandfather insists that his grandson get treatment for his condition as soon as possible.

Yangyang’s uncle will take him to Xi’an after Chinese New Year so Yangyang can get the eyeglasses he so desperately needs. The REAP/OneSight team has already given him a prescription so all he needs to do is select an eyeglass frame and pay about 200 RMB to cover the cost of the glasses—a price that his family is all too willing to pay. “We would pay many times that price. His eyesight is priceless.”
